Development of sustained release trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride using graphene oxide nanocarrier

Abstract:


The demand of an efficient nanocarrier in drug delivery, graphene and its derivatives are emerging as a rising star. Graphene oxide (GO) has high surface area and ability to load high amount of aromatic drugs. Loading of Trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride (TH), antiparkinsonian drug on GO ultrasonically by π-π stacking interaction was studied. GO was synthesized by the modified Hummer method. By varying an amount of GO and TH, the effect on loading efficiency and drug release was studied. GO-TH complex was characterized by UV-vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, FESEM and XRD. GO-TH complex showed better-sustained release of the drug and can be useful for the reduction in symptoms of Parkinson's disease as well as adverse effect with better patient compliance.
